Launceston is one of Australia’s most intact colonial cities, and the decisions made in this role directly determine what we protect, how we list it, and how development sits alongside it. As Heritage Officer, you’ll be assessing development applications, preparing and managing planning scheme amendments, and representing Council at the Tasmanian Planning Commission. You’ll provide expert advice that shapes real outcomes across heritage places, precincts, landscapes, significant trees and areas of archaeological potential.Key responsibilities of this position include:Prepare and manage planning scheme amendments for heritage listings, precincts, landscapes, significant trees and areas of archaeological potential under the Tasmanian Planning SchemeUndertake timely, accurate heritage assessments for development applications affecting local heritage places, precincts and significant trees, consistent with statutory requirementsProvide expert heritage advice to planners, applicants, Councillors and the community on heritage values, conservation principles and appropriate design responses
