Ngarrabullgan, also known as Mount Mulligan, is a visually striking huge table-top mountain around ten times the size of Uluru that rears out of the northern Queensland landscape. It runs for more than 18 kilometres and is located approximately 100 kilometres west of Cairns.
Archaeological evidence shows that the Djungan people stopped living on the mountain 600 years ago. They believe that Ngarrabullgan is inhabited by the Eekoo who can cause sickness by throwing hooks, stones, or pieces of wood into the body without leaving a mark. The Djungan are aware of the importance of not going near the lake on top of the mountain where the Eekoo lives so as not to disturb him. The Eekoo’s spirit wanders all over Ngarrabullgan and he is generally held responsible for any sickness experienced when on the mountain.
